Farm Sanctuary SA

The Farm Sanctuary SA was opened in 2016 and is home to the world-famous Pigcasso. Nestled in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley of the Western Cape, the sanctuary houses a growing number of rescues from the everyday horrors of animal agriculture. Joanne Lefson started the sanctuary in order to not only provide a safe haven for animals in need but to awaken a connection between consumers and the living farm animals.
The animals
Pigcasso, the famous painting pig is a big attraction at the sanctuary, with her amazing skills being featured on CBS, BBC and other news stations around the world. She was rescued from a pig farm just before she was due to be slaughtered and her talent and love of painting has helped the sanctuary spread their message of compassion around the world.
Baloo was the first cow to call the sanctuary home. Rescued from an informal settlement whilst only a malnourished baby, he has been lovingly nurtured into a “grass munching maniac.”
Both Pigcasso and Baloo, together with the other animals at the sanctuary are lucky survivors who will get to live the rest of their lives in peace.
