Asher’s Farm Sanctuary

Asher’s Farm Sanctuary, just outside Pretoria, is a safe haven for rescued farm animals who are able to live the rest of their lives in an environment of compassion and care. The sanctuary was started in 2017 and was the dream of Oscar Hirsch (Hebrew name Asher). Asher had a lifelong passion for animals and lived by the words of George Bernard Shaw, “Animals are my friends and I don’t eat my friends.” The creation of the 8.5ha sanctuary is the realisation of his dying wishes.
The sanctuary is home to a wide range of rescues from the animal agriculture industry and each have their own special story, from “Babe” the pig who leaped from the truck that was transporting her to the market, “Grace” the calf who fell off a transport truck, donkeys rescued from a cruel fate and the lucky chickens who were saved from a cruel school prank. All these animals are safe and getting the life they deserve in this beautiful sanctuary.
Free weekend tours are available, where guides walk you through the sanctuary sharing the story of each of the special inhabitants. The animals love interacting with people and you will get taught the special way to scratch a pig’s belly, the best way to hold a chicken and more.
Delicious food
Asher’s Corner Cafe serves delicious 100% plant-based food with all proceeds going directly to the sanctuary. From Buddha bowls to burgers, delicious breakfasts, and decadent desserts, you will find a range of options to satisfy your taste-buds.
